Rationale of my work

Basically I've intergrated my art nouveau style with Joe Colombo's simple curves and I've created a lady character to show how i fuse in the both styles.

This is the character I've created.

I've also added extra textures to make it more interesting.

I've intergrated my love for splash paints and brought in his style of designing this tube chair which i find it so interesting. And the result of the circles also show the RETRO feeling of the 60s style.

His Tube Chair design. Interesting to see that he liked to keep things compact and yet so so interesting and useful too!

Final Graphic design.

The flowery pattern and Splash paint were drawn using wacom board. It is to show how both art nouveau style and splash paint plus 60s style can create such an interesting graphic.

For the box, It is just a simple graphic box which shows contemporary design. =D

What influence me?

Personally I think its his motivation and persistance towards design. I believe when most designers discover that their work was been ripped off or copied, they erupt in understandable fury and will be damn upset. However for Joe, he would just say: "We’ll just have to make it better."

And if a manufacturer didn’t show as much enthusiasm for a project as Colombo himself, he didn't waste time arguing, but stopped work and found another company to make it.

All these shows that his persistance and his passion towards the design industry which makes me feel so happy to have such a good designer in the past.

Another thing is that his determination and continuous learning attitude. He liked to experiment with different materials and design ever since he took over his father's factory. He never stopped and looked at what he already accomplished but continued to explore and improve on his designs. Some of the materials he experimented with were the Fabre Glass and plastic when both were newly developed in the late 1950s.

He embraced new technology into his works which show that he was highly adaptable and flexible in his thinking and designs.

Seriously he was really a good and productive designer. He had far vision about his designs and always think for others.

The Chosen Designer - Joe Colombo (1930-1971)

Joe Colombo, one of Italy's most prolific designer in the sixties, creating some of the world most memorable products during this period.
Borned in Milan, Cesare Colombo, nicknamed "Joe" was the second of three brothers.

He took over the running of the family's factory when his father became ill in 1958. He gave up painting but used the factory as his personal workspace to experiment with the latest production process and newly developed plastic like the fibreglass.

In 1962, He opened a design studio in Milan where he worked on architectural commissions, mostly interiors for ski lodges and mountain hotels (skiing was one of his passions). He also continued his experiments in product design to which he applied the same love of bold, folding, curvaceous forms. His emphasis was on change and the possibility of harnessing new technologies to produce new design solutions in furnitures in a era when the world were hooked on the promise of new ways of living.

But sadly Joe Colombo dies of heart failure on 30 July, his 41st birthday.

His works and products

"BOBY" Trolley
A utility-cart with rotating trays connected to the vertical axle running the length of one of its sides. "BOBY" was specifically studied for use alongside a drawing table, but can easily be used in the office as well as the home, thanks to its vertical stackability and storage capacity.

"5 in 1" GLASSES

each can be inserted one inside the other, in integrable form forming a stylized flower and its compact.

Additional Living System

In 1967, he unveiled the Additional Living System consisting of moulded polyurethane cushions in six different sizes which could be pinned together in different configurations according to the users' wishes.

These are the examples of compositioning all his design as a room. You can see that he uses alot of curves and even if he uses straight lines, the corner where the lines meet are always rounded.

Elda Armchair

This armchair clearly show his love to curves as most of the design in contains only rounded corners and more CURVES! "MULTI-CHAIR" ARMCHAIR
This armchair is a convertible system composed of two stuffed and elasticized fabric-covered cushions which can be used separately or together. They can be positioned differently to form chairs, or armchairs of various orientation, for conversation or relaxation. Two hooks with leather connections serve to fix the cushions in place. Cool huh.

"SUPERLEGGERA" ARMCHAIR

Main thing about this chair is COMFORT! The individual sections of cushions are differently sized and made stiff by plastic splints for comfort. Even the arm rest also have cushion!

"ROLL" ARMCHAIR

The armchair made of rollers, hence its name, ROLL. Again, CURVES~

As you can see, most of his works show his love to curves and I believe he was influenced by the 60s style when things were getting more stylish and modern. People often says him as the inventor of the future, which is quite true as most of his designs I believe even me in this modern world will buy his creations and put in my room. =D

My style

personally i think that my style is more of flowery and contemporary. Just like art nouveau.
i like the way complicated flowery curvy lines run over my works.
this is the wrapping paper design for my ideation1. I was inspired by the flower petals and designed it in this way.
This is the splash paint design I use for Project 1. It is contemporary and I like the way that paints can be messy in a nice way.

This is a collage done for 3D art. I uses twines to show my love for flowery designs and yet keep it simple to make it look modern.

These pictures are the design on my room walls. I painted again flowery designs and keep it simple to show contemporary. I like using black and white to show the contrast and this design brightens up my room as it is outstanding from the black wall.
